As the world navigated through the Global Pandemic of 2020, a pressing challenge rose that was hidden from the media, youth mental health. The mental health problem in the U.S. has been worse than ever with more than 1 in 5 young adults living with a mental illness. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 10-24. Implementing a program to improve the mental well-being of our children was critical and necessary. Our mission was to take a new approach on healing the scars that Covid-19 left by providing therapy animals, an attempt to restore the dopamine deprivation in today's world. It started with a social media post, for a golden doodle seeking a new home. What we were not expecting was for him to bring more love into our house than we were ready for. This immediately became something that we needed to share with our community after the past couple upsetting and complex years. After a simple training process and a few visits to Saint Patrick High School in Chicago, it was clear that this dog, Patrick, had a gift that was exactly what the school and its students needed. When a second dog fell into our lap, desperately in need of some care, we were once again surprised by how much of an impact an animal can make. Our purpose became clear: Putting our best paw forward and insituting therapy animals into our community and lives.
Tails of Love is a therapy dog nonprofit organization firmly dedicated to supporting schools and mental health in a post-pandemic world. The core of this project is to provide endless positivity, love, and kindness to all through the healing powers of therapy animals. While implementing our own animals into this cause, our program also educates and encourages schools and other willing participants to invest in our nations mental health and introduce therapy dogs and animals to their institution. We recognize that each school's needs and resources may differ, so our organization offers flexible solutions to tailor the program to the unique requirements of your establishment. Therapy dogs create an atmosphere of positivity and encouragement that is undoubtedly needed in today's world. We envision a future where young adults thrive academically and emotionally, equipped with the tools to face life's challenges, confidently and dynamically. Join us in this transformative journey, as we strive to create a brighter and more empathetic world for our young generation's mental health.
